The Constitution is the bedrock of our Republic and must be followed. Limited government and fiscal discipline are natural outflows of policies and laws that are rooted in the Constitution. Our government does not operate in a vacuum. Each new program, initiative, or oversight replaces or removes the right of private individuals and entities to govern themselves. When government expands, our individual freedoms and liberties diminish. We must stem the tide of government encroachment into our private lives and the private sector and demand accountability for every tax dollar that is spent. We are best served by our government when it acts in its appropriate role as an impartial referee. Interference or active involvement in private business severely limits our economic prosperity by stifling competition and innovation.

2nd Amendment Rights 

The Second Amendment is very simple to me and our Founding Father’s thoughts on the subject are clear, “"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." -- Thomas Jefferson, 1 Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334. The Second Amendment states that “…the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The oath I will take as your representative requires me to “uphold and defend” the Constitution. It will be my duty to protect, defend, and fight for our Second Amendment rights. I fully agree with the laws that have recently been passed in states like Montana that have declared that federal laws restricting the use of firearms are invalid if the firearm is not traded in interstate commerce. I am a responsible gun owner and member of the NRA.
